Hair Care - post
Surgery
Immediately after
surgery as anesthesia is given to the patient before surgery, one should take
rest post transplantation. The grafts are loose in the first two to three days
so proper care should be taken. The reciepient area should be shielded from sun and
shampooing is also startd after two days from surgery. However, the doctor's
advice is necessary.
Athletic activities
should be suspended for 1 to 2 weeks.
Undue stress should be avoided at the donor site for several months.
However normal activities can be resumed
after two weeks from the surgery.
The hair should be
kept to the level of the donor incision 1/2 inch or longer with your first 3- 4
haircuts. It normally takes 8 to 12 months for the donor incision to reach its
final stage of healing and for all the hair to grow back around the incision.
During the first ten
days, virtually all of the transplanted hairs, inevitably traumatized by their
relocation, will fall out ("shock loss"). After two to three months
new hair will begin to grow from the moved follicles. The patient's hair will
grow normally, and continue to thicken through the next six to nine months
Numbness or sensation
is also common post surgery. Normally it takes two to six months to fully
recover. However proper medication may keep the sensation to only minor
tingling, prickling or itching sensations.
