Topomax and Keppra

My son has spent years experiencing adverse reactions to every drug out there. He has always been hyper sensitive, heck even laundry soaps give him rashes, but he is now on Topomax and Lamictal. And he is on twice the recommend max dosage for his size...and No Reactions! Its been amazing, because these are probably the last drugs out there, we have been on everything.

Mostly Topomax has side effects with eating, appetite, etc (none of which my son has experienced). And those risks are nothing compared to the huge behaviour problems he had on Valproic Acid, Keppra, and the hosts of others.

i'm new to this site but far from being new to seizures

i've been on about everything on the market i was started out on liquid phenabab then progressed to the pill after i was 26? a dr. i had at the time told me that it was addictive and he was going to wean me off it i told him "don't you think it's a little late for that doc" lol

i was on topamax for a short period about 8 years ago and i was getting sycotic with it and weaned myself off it along with several other meds through the years

we are all diffrent when it comes to reactions but thought i'd give you a heads up on this med

i was a 40 year old man at that time and it had that affect on me

i've been on kepra for about 7 years now and 1000 mg twice a day

and phenabarb 2 64.8 mg twice a day

i have every kind of seizure possible from mild ones to gran-mas

they are not fun! my biggest complaint on kepra is it makes my joint and hands swell up

the nerve twitchin and migraines are alway better than the granma's trust on that

i've had them since i was 6 months old i was pronounced dead in the hospital mom and dad was sent home only to be called back to be told that a new dr. had brought me back

i was dead for 5 minutes so i was told

i was told i had ate some paint off a high chair and then i was told dad had been burning some batteries and the fumes caused it who really knows

so i know some from experience to watch out for side effects on meds and they don't always tell you everything either

My daughter has been taking Keppra 1000mgs in am and another 1000 in pm for 4 months and she has had a tatol of 6 seizures within a year. Her first one was Nov. 7 of 2010 then June 11 and June 19th of 2011 and then July 12th and she just had one Nov. 30th and Dec. 1. The doc wants to up her Keppra at night to 15000. I'm really scared to do this casuse of the side affects. She gets so hostile kicks and screams and doesn't want to take them mostly in the am. It is horrible. Three of the seizures her arm froze and very painfull and couldn't move it. She has a memory lost from having the seizures. One of the seizures lasted for half an hour. I didn't think she was going to make it. The one on Nov 30th she was sleeping and I couldn't wake her up. Really scary. She use to be a sweet little girl but not anymnore. I know it isn't her fault and have to keep reminding myself. The doc had her on Triliptol but it was to strong that her eyes were litteraly dancing in her head.She was under the weather so to speak just before her first seizure and the last two. She has terrible migranes and stomaches. She has missed a total of 11 days of school already. She just struglgles with everyday life. It breaks my heart to see her like this.
