Has anyone tried the new drug Banzel? We have had our 2 year old son on it for 6 weeks in addition to Topamax and he is down to 1 seizure about every 4 days. This is a huge improvement since he has not been seizure free for over one year. We tried the Ketogenic diet and did not have success, but do continue to spread the word to others stuggling with seizures. We prayed that the diet world work for us, but unfortunately it did not. We wanted to pass on that Banzel/rufinimide has made a difference. He is a lot more alert, learning and we feel like we have our son back. Blessings to all.
Hi Susan
I really appreciate you letting everyone know about your success. That is great news!
It is so hard to know what is going to work and will it work without side effects. It seems like we are often on a pendulum that swings from side to side so it is great to hear positive feedback. I wish you continued success and for complete seizure freedom in the near future. Please keep us posted.
Warmly,

Banzel
Susan,
I know it has been a while since your post on Banzel but I wanted to reach out. My son will be 2 Oct. 23 and he's been on Topamax since birth. We have always been concerned about the side effects of Topamax so we are in the process of weaning him off and started the Banzel. I am curious if you child has any speach or motor skill problems on the Topamax.
Thanks,
Jen
On Banzel now
Ped neuro jsut took of Topamax after two mths after we told him that daughter seemed a little more agitated and we noticed absence seizures more frequent and last longer. We are not quite sure how well Banzel is helping. Daughter has been on it since May when diagnosed with Lennox Gastaut. Haven't noticed any side effects from it on our side.
My son iwill be three in
My son iwill be three in August. We have recently added Banzel and have just begun to wean him off topomax which he has been on for two years. He takes 180mg a day and will take 12 weeks to wean him. He is also on keppra. I am anxious to see how he responds to being off the topomax and if we see him "perk up" a bit.
