Talking About the Side Effects with Doctors

I read this new blog this morning and found it really interesting.

I quote...

"Whilst almost all physicians claim to discuss side effects with their patients, less than half of patients reported that these discussions actually took place. Many epilepsy sufferers expressed reluctance to broach the topic of side effects with their health care professional, which could explain why the professionals underestimate the number of those experiencing side effects at only 43%."

This is kind of a wake-up call for me. I know that I've been reluctant to continue to tell Sarah's doctor that her meds are interfering with her functioning in school. In the beginning, I fully expected him to do something about it. I've told him so many times that I no longer bring it up -- he's never indicated that there's anything to do about it except try a different medication.

What's that saying? Better the evil you know than the one you don't. Something like that... meaning that, right now, I'll take the side effects that we already know about over new ones.

Am I the only one who's given up on talking about side effects?
