There are obviously more then five skills we need to teach our children with special needs, but these lay the groundwork and begin to build advanced skills that will help our children throughout life. Many of these concepts are overlooked and subsequently fall to the wayside.

When you parent a child with special needs, it can seem the list of special needs never ends. One of the most integral services for many children is that of occupational therapy. Known in short as, OT, this therapy is a fundamental component for children with autism, but beneficial regardless of diagnosis.

Before I had a child with autism, I thought OT was given to older persons that needed to learn daily life skills. It never really occurred to me that children needed OT, but all that changed in the mid 1990’s.
