The Gluten Free diet stopped my son's seizures!
I'm Lisa Petrone from Erie, PA. Our son has has seizures since he was 3 years old. He would seize almost every night. After facing the possibility of brain surgery, we put him on the G.F. diet as a last resort. It was like a light switch....they stopped!! If he accidentially injests gluten, he will seize non-stop during the night and has to be sedated. Blood tests for celiacs are slightly "off", but not enough to support the disease. No scope has been done because he has been on the diet for a year. Has anyone heard of this before? Does anyone know of a Dr. that might be of help to us!
Thanks,
Lisa

Celiac's Disease
Hi Lisa.
Have you ever had your son tested before? I have heard of children who have seizures specifically from eating gluten. It might be something to look into. That is absolutely wonderful that you found the cause! My son has the same problem with gluten. The SCD diet has been very effective at helping to heal his intestines which has made him more able to eat some things. However, if he eats gluten for a few days in a row he begins squinting his eyes and popping his jaw. He also stares off for long periods of time. The gluten has a molecular structure very similar to that of an opiate. It actually binds to the receptors in the brain.

More on Gluten Free Diet
A few years ago I met a mom, who was also a chiropractor from Calgary, Alberta. She had a daughter with celiac disease and she could not tolerate wheat and needed a gluten free diet.
Dr. Corrie Materie wrote a cookbook called "No wheat No Problem" and it is FULL of recipes especially made for kids!
It is an amazing book.
I just wrote to her to see where you could buy it. I will post the answer here when I hear back from her.
