It’s called transition planning and it’s common for parents to be more stressed and concerned about life after high school than for a child with autism.  However it can be a very difficult and scary time for a child because of change, leaving the structured world of special education. The reality is proper planning for life post secondary education for a child with autism no matter what their level of functioning, is critical to success.

Jenny McCarthy is speaking out against vaccines, not because she is against the vaccines themselves, but because of the loads of unnecessary toxins in vaccines. Why is she so against the "toxins"? Well, she believes there is pretty good evidence these toxins can flip the switch and trigger autism in many children just like her son. Autism is an epidemic in the United States. Currently, 1 in 94 boys in the country has autism.

In this video, a father recounts his trials and tribulations with his son Ethan. He discusses how Ethan began his life as a happy and healthy child with great joint attention. Slowly, Ethan began showing signs of autism, slipping away into his own world, completely unaware of the world around him, including his parent's own voices. However, with the help of antiviral - antifungal therapy, Ethan has now recovered from autism.

Valproic acid, commonly referred to as the drug Depakote has been linked to autism. Other studies have proven that valproate also causes birth defects. Depakote is an anticonvulsant medication used to treat disorders ranging from seizures, to mood swings, to headaches.

My email is full of messages discussing our soon to be President, Barack Obama, and his announcement that he will reform Autism and insurance mandates; i.e. policy reform targeted at having insurance companies help pay for the cost of treating autism; at least I think that's what it means...

Vaccinations are a controversial topic, so many people are watching the latest court case involving a child injured from vaccines.

This case involves a child born in 1974 and the vaccination being discussed is the DTP, which has been altered since that time. 

As expected, those arguing vaccines are safe, assert the child had a pre-existing condition that predisposed the child to having an adverse affect and subsequently autism, in addition to other neurological injuries.

Last week I read an article discussing the use of restraint when working with children that have disabilities.  A 12 year old boy with Asperger Syndrome had been restrained face-down on multiple occasions and now, after a hearing, litigation has begun.
