As a parent, it can be difficult to make meals that are both healthy, fun to make, and be something that your child will absolutely love.

One recipe that has all of the basic food groups, is fun for both a parent and child to make together, and tastes delicious is a healthy treat for kids - mini quiche cups.

This is a recipe that requires your child to act as chef. Have your child retrieve the ingredients from the refridgerator and prepare them. As far as safety is concerned, they can cut the butter up with a butter knife if they are old enough. You should put thing in the oven and also take them out.

These quiches are made with 1 1/3 cups of whole-wheat flour, 1 cup of butter (ice cold and cubed), a pinch of salt, four eggs, two tomatoes cut in circles, shredded cheddar cheese, and 2/3 cup of whole milk.

You will need a sifter, a cup, a muffin tin, a bowl, and a rolling pin.

The first thing you do is make the crust for the quiche, after which, you will let firm up in the refridgerator.

The Recipe With Guidelines For Your Kids

First, help your child sift the flour with the sifter into a bowl. Have them add in the pinch of salt. Tell them to take the butter and squish the flour into the butter with their fingers. You can add in small amounts of butter at a time. Tell them to keep squishing until it is the consistency of sand. Emphasizing the sand part can be especially fun for kids (who love to play in the sand).

Help your child make a large "ball" out of the flour and butter so that just about all of the two ingredients are combined. Take the ball of flour and butter and wrap it in plastic wrap. Then, place it in the fridgerator for roughly 30 minutes. Have your child set a timer to help them remember when to take it out.

After 30 minutes the dough should be considerably firmer. Take the dough out of the plastic wrap and place it on a counter or some or place that is lightly dusted with flour. Have your child help you roll the dough out in an even fashion with a rolling pin, until it is 1/4 of an inch thick.

Then, have your child take the cup - which will be used in a cookie cutter fashion, to punch out circles in the dough. Have your child take the round and place it on top of one of the muffin slots and push down until the inside is coated with the dough evenly. Ensure that the dough is slightly higher that the top of the muffin tin so that the quiche mixture won't spill out. After the muffin tins are finished being "coated" with the mixture, tell your child to put the muffin tin in the refridgerator to firm up again for 15 minutes. While it is in the refridgerator, preheat the oven at 400 degrees.

After the dough has firmed up again, put it in the oven for 6 minutes. While it is cooking, have your child crack the eggs in a bowl, and whisk them together with the milk.

Take the muffin tin out of the oven and place it on the counter, sprinkle enough cheese in all of the muffin slots to coat the inside, and then pour the egg and milk mixture into each of the cups. Top off each cup with a tomato slice. Enjoy.
