In this day and age our kids do more than ever. Gymnastics cheer classes, football, soccer, T ball, karate classes, the list goes on and on. That means a lot of time traveling from place to place. We assume that businesses and parks which cater to children are child proof and child ready, but that is not always the case. Especially in this day and age of economic uncertainty and recession, more and more people are cutting corners. This means less supervision less supplies and less first aid kit replenishment.
What happens when your child slips and falls? Or bumps their head on the corner of the table? Most places, even well stocked, are prepared for cuts, scratches and maybe a bump or bruise, but how many are prepared for a child with special needs? I have been on special education campuses that donât have a band aid in the place! Imagine what they may or may not have in the local florists. I was in a specialty childrenâs store when I ran across the Medibag. It had everything I never thought to take with me, like elbow bandages and a bright emergency sticker. It was in a red plastic old time doctors bag shape and I had to have it before I even saw what was inside! It is well stocked, kid friendly in design and application and when you open it, things stay put!
Sometimes, you can take it with you!
Peace of mind is hard to find, but when it comes to your childâs comfort once their safety has been compromised, you can be in charge. How? Take a child centered emergency kit with you. Every parent should have a first aid kit for traveling kids. A kids travel kit may include a favorite toy, an item you know will bring them comfort, and hopefully it is a quiet toy so as to be completely appropriate for anywhere you may travel. You want a complete change of clothes, down to their socks.
There are commercially available emergency kits for kids, such as the MediBag. This pre-made kit includes several kid friendly items such as smiley face stickers for the less medical and more emotional owies, crayon shaped bandages and items for sensitive skin needs like Hypoallergenic First Aid Tape. There were things that I didnât expect to find in it, like a kid friendly set of tweezers that make splinters a breeze, and eye wash and a free 45 item refill offer! It all comes in a cute well planned out doctorâs bag made of tough bright plastic which I easily find no matter how messy my trunk might get!
Keep the carefully controlled environment you have made at home to keep your kids safe with you wherever you may travel with a kit like the Medibag. Itâs cute, fun and functional and people everywhere ask me about it, which raises the awareness for the special first aid needs children have!
