John Travolta’s son’s death certificate confirmed what was already suspected: Jett Travolta dies from seizure. Jett and his father, mother, and sister, Ella, arrived in Grand Bahama island on Tuesday and were staying at Old Bahama Bay hotel. They had planned to stay for a couple of days in order to celebrate the New Year, and then planned on going back to their home in Florida.
Jett was last seen alive on Thursday night when his father said goodnight to him after a long day of fun together. Jett reportedly hit his head on the bathtub around 10 A.M the next morning, on January 2, 2009 when he got up to use the restroom. It has been reported that Jett’s body was discovered by his caretaker and that his father, John Travolta tried to resuscitate him on the scene until paramedics took over. Jett was pronounced dead upon arriving at Rand Memorial hospital.
Jett’s Health and History
Jett has had a history of seizures. He took the drug Depakote, which reduced the frequency of his seizures until it began to lose its effectiveness and began to cause damage to his liver. After consulting with neurosurgeons, Jett’s parents decided to take him off of the drug. As a result, he went back to suffering from at least one seizure a day and also occasionally suffered from blackout spells.
Kelly Preston, Jett’s mother, has talked about in the past how when her son was two years old he became deathly ill with flu-like symptoms and was later diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, a disease that causes inflammation to the arteries. Kelly Preston said she thought her son’s disease was triggered by toxic chemicals in cleaners, pesticides, and fertilizers. She claims that her son’s health was improved by a detoxification program created by L. Ron Hubbard, the found of Scientology. Some people have claimed that Jett had autism, however both parents have adamantly denied these claims.
Jett’s grandmother said that Jett was “the light of our lives,” and that she is “devastated” over the family’s loss. It was reported that Jett had a wonderful relationship with his father, and that the two had a strong, “unspoken bond” between them. Jett was born on April 13, 1992. He was 16 years old when he passed away.
