Dr. Deborah Snyder Implores Health Care Professionals To Recognize The Efficacy Of The Ketogenic Diet (Video)

Addressing the International Symposium on Dietary Therapy for Epilepsy and Other Neurological Disorders, mother and doctor Deborah Snyder reveals her first-hand experience of the ketogenic diet and its success in curing her son’s epilepsy.  She implores health professionals to recognize the efficacy of the diet in stopping seizures and aims to dispel the myth that the diet is too difficult or not worth the effort.

Helping Kids with Special Needs Concentrate and Focus

I think all children have difficulty focusing and concentrating at one time or another, but for those children who struggle with this day in and day out, the implications can be far reaching. 

When children enter the school system, especially if in main-stream classes, the expectations can be quite great and definitely include the ability to concentrate.  Special education classes, while more adept at understanding this ability is difficult to master, tend to use creative methods to teach concentration and focus.

One Mum’s Rage At Doctors Refusal To Take Ketogenic Diet Seriously (Video)

Speaking at the 2008 International Symposium on Dietary Therapy for Epilepsy and Other Neurological Disorders, British Mum Emma Williams tells of her fight to get son Matthew on the ketogenic diet.  In an address that brought tears to the eyes of not only this brave Mum but many in the audience, she speaks of her rage at doctors refusal to take the ketogenic diet seriously and the subsequent brain damage her little boy suffered due to constant seizures.

Strategies Used Against Parents and Advocates- Final Discussion: Confusion

Okay, this is my final post on strategies used to deter parents and advocates. Today's timely topic: Confusion

I received an email today from a mother seemingly beside herself with confusion.  She didn't understand the technical differences between options offered to her by the school district regarding IEP's and 504 plans for her child.  She wasn't sure if what the district told her was 100% accurate (regarding alternate options she has). There's more to the story, but you see where I'm going... she was feeling very confused.

Abrahams Fight To Rid Son of Seizures: Full Report By Dateline NBC (Video)

NBC’s Dateline has followed the story of Charlie Abrahams for over 10 years, charting his parents’ fight to get him on the ketogenic diet and keep him seizure free. 

Charlie is the son of top Hollywood director, Jim Abrahams, most famous for the movies Airplane, Naked Gun and Hot Shots.  Jim’s life took a dramatic turn when his one year old son Charlie started having seizures, which increased in frequency up to 100 per day.
